Aunjanue Ellis in Versace at the Oscars: gorgeous custom gown

Aunjanue Ellis deserves all the accolades she’s getting for her role of Oracene Williams in King Richard. I hope to see her nominated again, especially after Will Smith sucked all of the air out of the room last night. I’m still mad that Lovecraft Country wasn’t renewed for a second season but hopefully this nomination will get her more roles.

Aunjanue was an off the shoulder burnt orange (it looked that color on screen, but it photographs more red) Versace gown. She had “Jax Baby” embroidered on one shoulder for her mother, Jacqueline, which she explained to Laverne Cox was something she requested. It was such a gorgeous gown and the sculptural shoulders are a cool touch. I love the personalization and don’t think I’ve seen another Oscars gown with visible embroidery like that. We’re going to see more celebrities embroidering their gowns soon!

Also in Versace was presenter Lily James. I’m not fond of the bodice of this dress, the chest area is weird, and the pattern is very 70s puffy wallpaper. This looks like Marchesa.

Halle Bailey, who presented along with Lily, was in a sea foam Grecian-look Roberto Cavalli. It’s not my favorite but she and her sister, Chloe, looked like they were having a good time together.
