Is Crossfit a religious cult?
I'm wondering if it is actually a church in the guise of a gym. I don't get the appeal and popularity of Crossfit.

It can get culty at some gyms among some members, definitely. But I think there's just too many people who just use it like a regular fitness program and don't get caught up. Also, it's easy to leave. Unlike cults, I've never heard of people having any particular trouble getting out.

They created a bunch of useless gimmicks to create a cottage industry. Just do cardio and lift weights, there are NO fitness secrets or shortcuts.

Plus the basis of Crossfit - high intensity interval training (HIIT) - exists far beyond Crossfit gyms. Most gyms have HIIT based classes/training sessions and there's plenty of home HIIT workouts available - across a wide range of equipment demands.

It seems to be petering out a bit compared to 8 years ago or so.
