Jelly Roll only wears socks once and just throws them out after
What are some of the luxuries you would indulge in if money were no object? I know my biggest one would be food (as in dining out or ordering in), because that’s my biggest excess now, even with money definitely being an object. Cooking is an art, I’m supporting the artists! Anyway, nowhere near the top of my list would be spending unlimited funds on socks. This is where country artist Jelly Roll and I differ. While backstage at the 59th ACM Awards last week, Mr. Roll revealed to Audacy personality Sabrina from Queens that he only wears socks once. One and done, that’s it. His socks are the mayflies of clothing. He calls it a “frivolous habit.” I just hope he’s buying from Bombas at least.
Who would’ve thought Jelly Roll’s most “frivolous habit” would involve socks?
The two-time Grammy-nominated country singer, 39, let fans in on one of his biggest secrets while speaking to Audacy’s Sabrina from Queens ahead of the 59th annual ACM Awards last week.
“Can I tell you a frivolous habit I have?” the “Save Me” artist said. “Don’t judge me for this, y’all. I promise I grew up very humble, but I only wear socks once.”
The “Wild Ones” singer admitted he buys his socks “in bulk” to avoid re-wearing them, saying, “It’s the most frivolous thing I’ve done with my success.”
“I’m sorry, I hope I didn’t let nobody down with that,” he added, “but when you’re fat, you can’t have stinky feet too, so you gotta have fresh socks!”
Amidst his recent success, Jelly has been committed to his health journey and focused on improving his physical fitness. Last month, the music star told PEOPLE, “I’m probably down 70-something pounds,” just ahead of his participation in the 2 Bears 5K with Bert Kreischer and Tom Segura at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. He finished the 5K on May 7 with his wife, Bunnie Xo, by his side, cheering him on.
“What a beautiful day w/ beautiful ppl! So proud of my baby doing the 5k & losing 50 lbs to do it! 💫,” she captioned an Instagram post, which included a PDA-filled video of the couple smooching in a cold plunge tub.
Reflecting more on his fitness progress with PEOPLE, Jelly shared, “I’ve been really kicking ass, man. I’m doing two to three miles a day, four to six days a week. I’m doing 20 to 30 minutes in the sauna, six minutes in a cold plunge every day. I’m eating healthy right now.”
“I feel really good,” he added of his lifestyle change. “I was thinking, I plan on losing another 100, 100-and-something [pounds]. If I feel this good down this weight, man, I can only imagine what I’m going to feel like by the time I go on tour.”
Jelly begins his Beautifully Broken tour later this summer, stopping in 37 cities across the U.S. His tour run — where he’ll be joined by musicians Warren Zeiders and Alexandra Kay — kicks off in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Aug. 27 and wraps up exactly two months later in Charlotte, NC.
I would like to congratulate Jelly Roll on his health and fitness journey. That’s another area where I’d be interested in spending my (imaginary) fortune, because money makes a big difference in the resources available to you. Good for him for keeping at it, you’re a better man than I, Jelly! Now let’s pick apart this statement: “When you’re fat, you can’t have stinky feet too, so you gotta have fresh socks!” I think there’s a solution that Jelly Roll is overlooking here, something between stinky feet and one-wear socks. And I think you know what it is, too. Say it with me now: LAUNDRY. What is it with some men and laundry?! I’m presuming not all of Jelly Roll’s clothing is worn only once then thrown out, which means he has loads of laundry being done already. Can’t the socks be tossed in? Is this out of fear of losing mates in the wash? If so, I’m sorry but then it’s an overcorrection. This is madness, wasteful madness! There’s another way, Jelly! Come to the light! Or darks! Or delicates!
